A word from Gastón Santos

We thought we would share a message we received from actor Gastón Santos who appeared in numerous ABSA Horror films in the 1950s and 60's. Despite being out of the Mexican movie industry for forty years we were able to locate him and asked him for an interview for our upcoming release of the "The Living Coffin" on DVD. Gastón is now in his late seventies and living on a Horse Ranch in Mexico.

This was his reply;

Although I starred in 11 Mexican films, I am not a movie person. I was asked to do movie roles as result of popularity I achieved as a Rejoneador (equestrian bullfighter). To everyone's surprise, (mine primarily) these films were a great financial success. Although I did not enjoy the work and I loathed putting my Bullfighting activity on hold for the duration of the film shoots because loosing my edge was of great concern. As was the fact I made a lot more money bullfighting. The film companies made me a financial offer I could not refuse, and kept doubling the amount each time, but after 11 movies I had enough and I never again stoped my bullfighting career. I fought 1348 bullfights over 30 years, a long career and I killed over 3000 bulls, suffered 11 gorings, became very wealthy and I retired and lived happily ever after. My son, Gastón, also a bullfighter is Mexico's rising star in this art.

sincerely;

Gastón Santos
